Sony Ericsson F305, n-gage watchout!!

Well, Sony Ericsson has come up with another series targeted at gamers. Though at first it may seem that the phones would be having top of the line hardware and big screens with hard to believe resolutions, but let us tell you before hand itself that you’d be disappointed. The phone model is F305 (perhaps F stands for Fun). It comes with slider form factor and the when you first look at it, you would be pretty much disappointed by how it looks and what it promises to deliver.

The display is small, resolution is 176×220, which is pretty extinct and the connectivity is also not very great. The phone is a tri-band 2G EDGE enabled along with Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR and A2DP. But its not a phone to hook to internet rather it’s a gaming device. It features a very nice set of five-way D pad, which doubles as direction buttons in landscape mode. Nearby the ear piece are two dedicated gaming buttons with cross and circle on them, which make them seem very similar to playstation-type console controls. But the best part is the phone has accelometer, which can be used to provide input to the games. This one is pretty similar to W910 walkman mobile phone, but as far as I know, there were not much of games available for that too except the ones which came pre-loaded in the phone itself. Well this device also comes loaded with three games- Bowling, Bass fishing & Jockey, all three are controllable through the accelometer. For example, for bowling the ball, you just need to swing your phone the way you’d do for a ball and bingo it works. It seems that guys at Sony have been inspired from the success of hardware-wise inferior Nintendo Wii as compared to the mighty Xbox and PS3, that could be a reason why they are pitting such a delicate device against mighty n-gage by Nokia.

It also comes with a decent media player and built in radio with RDS and trackID software by gracenote. It measures about 96 x 47 x 14.6 millimeters, and weighs in at 97.5 grams, which is bit heavy for a device sans hard disk or any top of the line hardware. The battery backup is said to be mighty 8 hours for playing games and there is another battery Power Pack CCP-100, which can be used for extra backup if required for uninterrupted gaming experience. Wait for 17th june for official announcement from SE folks on it. It would be available around Q3 2008 and would not cost much as it is low/mid range handset.
